Terms of use

This is an agreement between you and ⟨developer's name⟩ ("we") about the DaoLang app. By installing or using the app you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.

The app

DaoLang helps you learn Chinese words: lessons, reviews, writing characters, pronunciation checks, leagues. We give you a personal, non-transferable right to use the app on your own devices. The app and the course are ours, except for the third-party data and software named on the "Settings → Licences and open source" screen, which are used under their own licences.

Your account

You can learn without signing up, but your progress then lives only on that phone. To keep it, sign in with email, Google or Apple. You are responsible for what happens in your account and for keeping your password safe. You can delete your account in the app: "Settings → Delete account and progress".

Gems, freezes and leagues

Gems and streak freezes are part of the game: they cannot be bought with money, sold, exchanged or withdrawn, and they have no value outside the app. We may change how they work. In a league, the members of your group see your name in the app, your mascot and your points for the week.

The AI helper

The helper's replies are written by a language model (Claude by Anthropic). They may be wrong; check anything that matters. The helper works only if you agreed to send it your questions; you can withdraw consent in the settings.

What you may not do

• Interfere with the app or the server, or forge requests, points or league results.
• Take the course, recordings or other materials of the app for your own products, beyond what their own licences allow.
• Choose a name in the app that insults others or passes you off as someone else.

If you break these rules, we may limit or close access to your account.

No warranty

The app is provided "as is". We work to keep the course accurate and your progress saved, but we do not promise that the app will run without interruptions or errors. ⟨Scope and limits of liability under the developer's law: to be drafted by a lawyer.⟩

Changes and termination

We may change the app and these terms. A new version of the terms appears on this page with a new date; the app will tell you separately about significant changes. You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time.
