About Daolang
Daolang is an app for learning Chinese on iPhone and Android. Short lessons every day, and a team of mascots that won’t let you quit.
How we teach
- Words come back on time. Every word runs four tracks — translation, recall, listening and writing. The app remembers how well you know each word and brings it back just as it starts to fade.
- Speak out loud. In pronunciation tasks you do the talking, and your phone’s speech recognition checks you. Voice recordings are not kept.
- Write the characters. Strokes are drawn in order, a hint shows the next one, and the app corrects a wrong direction right away.
- AI helper. It explains the task, the words and the grammar, but leaves the translation to you — that’s how it sticks. Answers are written by Claude, a model by Anthropic, and only if you turn the helper on.
- A little every day. Your daily goal lights the day’s lantern, your streak grows, a freeze saves a missed day, and the weekly league lets you compete.
What we believe
- No ads. Your data is not sold or shared with ad networks.
- You can learn without signing up; an account is only needed to keep your progress on all your phones.
- Five interface languages: Russian, English, Spanish, Japanese and Korean.
Where the course comes from
Word meanings come from the open dictionaries CC-CEDICT and BKRS, pronunciation was recorded by native speakers, and strokes and character breakdowns come from the open Make Me a Hanzi project. All the authors are listed on the licences page.
